One was mint, the other not too shabby
I bought 2. One was absolutely mint and still in the original wrapping. The other was packed loose and had a tiny bit of rust on only the exterior of the baseplate that came off with just a touch of Lucas oil and a toothbrush. Both fit and feed fine in a GI PTR.

Great Value.
If you know how to remove rust and but forth the effort you can have very good mags that are almost like new. No you don't need sandblasting.

G3 Steel Mag review
Purchased 10 Steel Mags. All were wrapped in vapor paper inside a plastic sealed bag. It was interesting to note the manufacture dates were over 57 years old. My Age. All but two had rust on them. Some more some less. Broke out the AP brush and some CLP and scrubbed the rust off of all but one. That one needed the brass buffing wheel. Took the Parkerizing off but my next Duracoat project, I will refinish it. These are Combat grade mags. You could bean an insurgent in the head with a full one and cause damage. Will update after range day. Great Deal. Pros: Brand New, Never Used, Heavy Duty Cons: I'm a Marine. If I complain they will beat me...

Very satisfied after a little work
I bought three mags. They all came slightly covered in fine rust. I used a toothbrush and PB Blaster penetrating oil to scrub the inside and outside of the mag bodys. I dried the oil with a course paper towel and buffed the towel fuzz off with a cloth. The end result was two magazines that I don't believe had ever been inserted in a rifle, only handling/storage marks on the bodies. The third mag had about 20-30% of the finish remaining. The positive with the the third mag is it is smooth as butter when inserted in the rifle. Pros: Super inexpensive Cons: Took a little time to make them look nice

This is a poor to fair product ordered 30 2/3 of which were heavily rusted or dented only a few even looked like picture basically wasted 100 dollars grade 3 or worse many will require sand blasting to make serviceable which destroys any value.. Pretty bummed.. After being a ctd customer oh also packed loose so scratched all my new lancers thats fantastic.. Wow.. Pros: Magazines Cons: Bad shape

Nice for the price.
Bought 5 this time. I received 3 Hk and 2 Rheinmetall. As expected, light surface rust, dings and scratches. Nothing that won't clean up fairly well or affect function. Solid grade 2 on all of them. Great price for steel surplus mags. :)

I've ordered close to a dozen of these over the years and haven't been disappointed yet. They always need a cleaning but I've never had active rust or similar problems. No functional problems. For me condition remained pretty consistent between orders.

Good price on mags that are becoming scarce
Purchased 2 of these steel mags and 4 aluminum. The steel ones were obviously heavily used. The finish on them was very worn however they do function fine. Not a bad deal if you don't mind a little clean up work and maybe some painting. The steel mags are considerably heavier than the aluminum as well.

Good price considering the rust.
I ordered 11, out of those 9 are fully functional. One has a really bad dent and won't load more than a 8 rounds. The other doesn't lock into the mag well. At just over 3 bucks, I'm satisfied with the mags. My only complaint was the amount of rust. If you order these be prepared to spend some time scrubbing. A couple were so bad they were pitting.

Very Pleased - Highly Recommend
Bought 6. At $5 per magazine I was money ahead if only 4 worked satisfactorily. All 6 function properly in my Century C308. Five showed no signs of wear. One had noticeable scratches. Would buy again; but, why? Six are plenty. Could not find a magazine this cheap anywhere. And, when combined with the free shipping (at $50) it is a great deal! Especially, to have it delivered directly to my house.

Excellent. I would recommend these
I purchased 5 of these steel magazines and 5 aluminum magazines. All five of the steel were still in their factory wrap and unissued. Four of the aluminum were still wrapped and one was very slightly used. All for the price of used magazines. I would recommend that anyone needing G3 magazines purchase these before they are gone. Thanks CTD

Score! Reordering now. Great shape!
I ordered four of these magazines recently. Three were in like new condition, with one being very lightly used. One of the new ones was a Rhinemetal, all others HK. All are early 1960's vintage and parkerized. Very well made and stout. Heavier than the aluminum ones for sure. They also lock up a little more snugly than the aluminum variety. Cleanup was a breeze with mineral spirits. Springs cleaned up very well.

Ordered a pair of steel mags for my Century C308. They are in great condition with no dents or rust and are real H&K with the year stamped on them. Mine were made in the '60s and '70s. They are a little tighter fit than the aluminum ones but just slap them in like a man. They engage in mag well with no mods and are significantly heavier but will take some serious abuse. Only downfall is that they came in a flimsy envelope type mail bag that was almost busting open.

I purchased one aluminum
I purchased one aluminum magazine because I wanted to be cautious after reading some of the reviews about the steel mags. This mag is definitely used but deserves a 5 out of 5 bullets because the CTD product description was truthful. As mentioned, the magazine is used, but functions flawlessly. I broke down the mag for cleaning and didn't have to do anything. I only wiped the dust off the mag. The magazine cycled like new through a PTR-91. The magazine had zero rust and minimal wear. I might buy more, but the used aluminum magazines I purchased were simply fantastic. I suggest buying a few aluminum magazines because they looked factory fresh and buy 1 steel mag to see if you like it. I also purchased a new PTR-91 aluminum mag and the used aluminum mags look just as good and functions like new too. Maybe I was lucky, but I am buying more.

Seems to be hit or miss on these. I bought 2. Both came carefully wrapped in heavy German preservative paper. One had a little rust around the feed lip that will be easily cleaned with steel wool. Not sure if these are new or used - they have a naturally coarse finish, kind of like how even new Colt USGI AR mags come scuffed - but they are in excellent shape and much heavier and tougher than the aluminum ones. Plan to roll the dice and buy a few more.

Good quality as described
Good quality as described. I purchased 30 alloy mags and five steel mags. Overall, I was impressed with both. However, the steel ones were slightly better. Out of five, only one had rust, but brake cleaner and elbow grease fixed it right up. I then placed an order of five more steel mags. Better get them while you can. Also, price went up from my last order, so I figure jump now. I don't fault CTD for raising prices, all I ask is that my next order of five all be good quality. The alloy mags, I probably hit a 50/50 percentage of good quality vs. fair quality. Out of the 30 alloys, two were complete junk, dented, rusted bottom plates; about the only thing I could salvage was the spring and the follower. For the price, I cannot complain. Would I pay the price as they stand today? Probably not, unless I was guaranteed Class II quality. I remember the good old days when these went for a couple of bucks. A sign of the times! Thanks, CTD!

Got mine quite a bit cheaper than these are listed at, but even at this price they're still a good deal. One suggestion, put new springs in them. You can afford it and you'll wind up with like new mags. BTW, the collapsible stock isn't a bad investment either.

I ordered four of these for my CETME .308 Sporter. As the title says, it will fit the HK clone rifles but not without a heck of a slam to seat the magazine into place. If you take a file to the three lips on each side of the mag and file them down a bit, the mag then will fit better than a factory CETME mag. First order from CTD. I ordered 10 steel and 10 aluminum magazines. First, they were all thrown loosely in a box. The steel magazines had a lot of rust on them. I would not call the amount of rust on them as grade 2, as CTD described them. The aluminum mags were in extremely good shape until they were beat up by the steel magazines all tossed loosely into the same box. For the shipping and handling I paid, I expected better packaging. I know they were cheap, but that doesn't mean you should incorrectly describe them.

I have had very good results buying from Cheaper Than Dirt, but not this time!I bought 20 steel and 10 aluminum. The best of the steel mags was maybe a poor 5. The worst, I wouldn't call them even a 5. There's no way I would put any one of these in my PTR-91. Clean them? No. Not worth it. I threw all 20 in the garbage. The aluminum ones were a little better, but they were still filthy and scratched up, and showed signs of much use---but they were like they had ridden in the bed of a pickup truck for 5 years or more. I had ordered 10 of the aluminum mags from a different company. They were a buck more but were like new. Hardly any showed any sign of use. Each was in its own separate, clear plastic bag. Obviously, some people got lucky and got some good ones from CTD, but CTD, it should have been made clear that some of these were going to be disgusting!

Overall, these are great mags. I ordered 10 of the steel and 5 of the aluminum mags, and only one of the aluminum mags was broken. Yeah, sure there was some surface rust, but for mags made in 1961, it was not bad at all. A select few of them looked brand new. However, if you want them rust free, about 1-2 hours, 0000 steel wool, degreaser, spray primer, and spray paint will fix them right up, looking practically brand new again!

I'll admit to a lot of misgivings after reading every review on these steel HK mags. I ordered 6 and figured at this price 3 useable ones would still be a good deal. I got my box and was disappointed with my first impression. They were covered with a dry brown rust. I mixed up a bucket of boiling water and Dawn Dishwashing Liquid and soaked them for about an hour. I took a Stainless Steel Pot Scrubber and went to town. The rust fell prey to the scrubby and they began to look halfway decent!. I dried them and was pleased that they had early 60's HK and Rhinemetal date codes . I sprayed them down with Pam cooking spray and dried the excess oil off. They turned out to be Ugly Ducklings.. No pitting and the natural blued black appearance was there and every one looks and functions fine. I will be ordering more at this price!! I love a happy ending

I bought 10 of these mags
I bought 10 of these mags for my CETME and nine were covered with a light-to-medium rust when they arrived. None of them fit well in the magazine well and only a couple would lock in place and were so tight you couldn't work the release (beating on the release with the handle of a screw driver worked, though). This is, as I understand, not uncommon with the CETME, so I wasn't surprised.Anyway, I stripped them all down, hit the rust with steel wool, sandpaper or emery cloth as needed (get the springs too!) and then sprayed on a rust killer from the local auto paint store inside and out. After that I noted that some were bowed out - easily fixed with a pair of channel locks. I filed down the ones that were tight in the mag well and applied the file to adjust the fit with the mag release too. Most of this work was quickly done while listening to a ball game in my shop.I ended up with with 10 very serviceable magazines for a bargain price (and some elbow grease). Note that the rust killer (also known as rust converter) isn't cheap, but worth it, I think. A fellow could just clean them up, make them fit and apply some gun oil, Breakfree CLP, etc. But I didn't want to deal with the rust ever again so sprung for a can of $20 rust killer - still cheap magazines in my book!

The 1st order was as new.
The 1st order was as new. The 2nd was mostly light surface rust. This in no way was a problem as I took mags apart, stretched the springs and sloshed the inside and outside of mag bodies and the bottoms with a product which turns rust to primer. After drying I sprayed with flat black enamel ,baked at 300 degrees for 30 minutes (I use Bar B Q paint) and let cool. After cooling all parts which touched I used a gun grease and the mads are better than knew. I also wipe springs with grease to make sure they will slide and as a rust preventative. The price is great but shipping leaves more to desire.

I was so impressed by the first 18 magazines I then ordered another 18. Only 2 new in wrap, but all but one were good to go. The only malingering magazine had the floorplate come loose during shipping. Easy fix. Seven had a light dusting of rust that I cleared with Ospho. An excellent value from CTD, who have just made me a G3 Magazine Mogul!

I ordered 18 steel mags. 15 had light rust in places, while 3 had a light brown patina which will clean up nicely. 6 of the mags were still in the original packing! Not bad for the price and being 50 years old. Ordered on Monday, and delivered to Washington State by Thursday morning. Well done, CTD!

They clean up easily and are still as sturdy as a brick. Can't beat the price for steel mags, well worth the clean up time - Bravo CTD!

The rest had minor rust & pitting along with some scratches but are still functional. Given the incredible price, I am happy with my purchase. Like others have posted, even if half of the ones you purchased are garbage, you are still way ahead of the game.

This is my second order for my Century CETME. First order was 15 steel and 30 aluminum. 1 steel mag had been dropped but some tapping with a body hammer had it going in minutes and 4 were quite rusty but another couple minutes with a wire brush and some DuraCoat they were good as new, all the aluminum mags were perfect after a basic cleaning. This last order was for 30 steel, 10 were new in oiled gauze or crepe paper, 10 were IMO new but unwrapped as there were no scars or signs of ever seeing a magazine well, 5 were used in very good condition and 5 were rusted enough to require the wire brush and DuraCoat. Considering the dealers at the guns shows are charging $19 for used G3 mags I'd rather save money and put a little time in cleaning them up which considering I trust no manufacturers magazines is nothing strange, I strip down and clean every magazine I get regardless of whether its used mil-surp or brand new.

I ordered 15 of these mags. After a few days, the package arrived. 4 of them in paper wrap, 5 unused and the rest in normal wear and tear with one dented but in usable condition. All came in plastic bags and had some degree of storage rust. I disassembled them all for inspection and cleaning before I put most of them away, because I really need only 1 at the range (I am a warm barrel shooter). After cleaning them with WD40, and tooth brush, most of them look brand-new again. This is a very good deal compared to my last PSL magazine purchase. The PSL mags are poorly made, new but rusted and expensive.

I bought 20 of these. When I got them, 7 were still in the factory wrapping, 2 looked almost unissued, 6 had moderate wear and slight rust, and last 5 were rather severely rusted. Two to three had internal rust that made them feel gritty when the followers were depressed. I will probably take those apart for spare parts. All that said, I have a dozen that look BRAND NEW with minimal effort. I probably have 5 more that I will clean up and paint with some Rustoleum. Then function test all of them afterwards. I have enough magazines to last me as long as I have the rifle now. The local Gun & Pawn (the only local place I've found G3 mags, and aluminum ones at that) want a lot more money for them. For less than 6 bucks, these are a deal. I ordered 4 on a whim and I'm glad I did. The description says 'used' but the 4 I got were in unissued condition, with one still even in the factory wrapper. They all did have a minor amount of surface rust, but as other reviewers have noted, this easily cleans off with some fine steel wool and a little oil, though you will still most likely see 'ghost' spots on the parkerizing where the spots were, not that that will affect function in any way. These are great mags. The steel ones are heavier than the alloy versions, yes, but they are built like a tank (Panzer, I guess, being German) and are much more rugged. If you remember the 'bad old days' of the 80s where HK91 mags were as scarce as hen's teeth and very expensive, do yourself a favor and get a few of these while they're cheap.
