When storage space is an issue, the AquaPodKit™ is perfect as an emergency water supply when hurricanes, floods, storms and other disasters cut off or contaminate your water supply. Perfect for those who live in apartments or smaller homes, the AquaPodKit stores easier than many cases of store-bought water. It is also perfect to keep on-hand as a back-up water supply.
Affected by the suffering witnessed after Hurricane Katrina, inventor David Dodgen developed the AquaPodKit. Unlike its more expensive competitors, the company manufactures the liners in the United States.
The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1, 2013 and the Eastern Pacific season starts May 15, 2013. It is not too early to prepare. At the first warnings of a hurricane, put your disaster plan into action. Including the AquaPodKit assures you will have fresh water for weeks.
FEMA recommends filling up bathtubs at the first sign you may be without clean water. However, the bathtub can harbor more bacteria than your trashcan! When storms hit, you might not have time to bleach the tub. The AquaPodKit’s tub liner keeps water uncontaminated.
The AquaPodKit includes a plastic bladder and pump. The four-mil thick, food-grade linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plastic bladder meets USDA and FDA standards. It fits a standard sized bathtub. With the easy-to-follow instructions, fill the AquaPodKit at the first warning of a hurricane or storm—within 10 to 15 minutes you have 65 gallons of safe drinking water.
Measuring 40 by 80 inches, the AquaPodKit will hold 100 gallons if your tub is larger than standard size. A standard-sized bathtub is 60 x 30 x 14 inches. However, it is strongly recommend from the manufacturer that you do not overfill the bladder. Keep the water fill line a few inches under the rim of the bathtub.
On average, you need one gallon of water per day for drinking and personal hygiene. The AquaPodKit provides the minimum water necessary for four people for 14 days. Fill up more than one tub and you have double the supply! If you plan to use the AquaPodKit as back up, then you have extra water for dishes and laundry. Depending on temperatures and humidity, the water inside the AquaPodKit bladder will stay fresh for up to eight weeks.
To fill the bladder, secure the neck to your tub’s faucet with the included clamps. Two lockable sleeves seal the neck closed and have an opening for either the pump or the provided cork to cap off the opening. The siphon pump allows you to pump water into other containers such as drinking glasses, water bottles, jugs or buckets.
The only downside to the AquaPodKit is the bladder is not reusable. Once you take it out of the box, you cannot put it back in. Once you have filled the liner with water, throw away the bladder. However, AquaPodKit offers bladder refills. The pump and other parts are reusable.
