I get literally dozens of calls and emails nearly every day with people wanting to know if they can get the PMR-30 yet, when it will be available, and what the hold up is. We’ve been bugging Kel-Tec as well to find out what the hold up is.

Kel-Tec gave us this response today:

No, we are not at full production on PMR-30s. It has nothing to do with the product but more with the time line we set to release the PMR-30.

Back in January we announced that Q2 was the release date. It was based on estimated time to move from prototype to full production. What we had in January was a working model, but was not made on production CNC machines.

Our estimation proved to be quite off in terms of development. We noticed it before release but felt if we really pushed ourselves we could meet the Q2 release. The first batch of 80 or so, were done by that deadline, but had not been tested extensively (as we do with any first production run). After testing we found some inconsistencies in the CNC work and did some re-tweaking to fix it.

Since that first batch we’ve sent several other batches out, each with it’s own new little fix. All of the fire arms that have been sent out work, but in the course of production we’ve found little adjustments here and there that are improvements.

In all honesty this is stuff that should have been going on before release.

What should have happened (because hindsight is 20/20) was that we push back that official release date until October at the earliest.

Basically we underestimated the time it would take us to get these badboys into full production.

So we had a choice: either stop production completely and just wait until a later date (angering those that were told July as a release date) or release smaller batches so the guns can at least see the light of day as production catches up (also angering customers as they see guns coming out but can’t seem to get one). Obviously
we chose the latter (the right choice? this remains to be seen). The PMR-30s going out now are in working condition, but we’ve made that they may want to upgrade to, depending on serial number.

These parts will of course be free.

One thing we’ve discovered since shipping is that the PMR-30 does NOT like ammunition made in the Philippines (Armscor/Fiocci). The brass is weak and blows out.

So in conclusion: We are still making and shipping PMR-30s while production can get on track. They are still in small batches (30-70) and we are waiting on various redesigned parts to come back from heat treatment so we can start producing them in larger quantities.

Simply put we jumped the gun a bit on release (no pun intended), we acknowledge it, accept it, and are doing everything in our power to get things moving. In the meantime we are still sending out PMR-30s in small batches as we make them.

I hope this clarifies some things. My suggestion is to just pretend as if we set a release date for sometime in October and if you happen to come across a PMR-30 then it will be a pleasant surprise.

So, there you go. We’re still waiting for our next shipment of PMR-30 pistols. If you want to be one of the first ones to get your own PMR-30, follow this link and sign up by clicking on the link inside the red box to receive an email as soon as we have more PMR-30 pistols in stock.

  3. That is all well and good to release small batches at a time but it creates a feeding frenzy that drives the price of a $400.00 gun to $700.00 or more! The dealers and individuals that are getting rich on the small batches and not disclosing anything about future problems with the gun or the kind of ammo they will shoot or not shoot! I believe they sould hit the market ready to shoot all .22 magnum cartridges at the pricepoint they are supposed to be or hold onto them and just say you screwed up on the realease date!

  5. October is only next month, so lets hope the price gouging stops and delivery in earnest starts by November.
As far a s ammo goes… I Am a Big 22Mag fan… But like the AMT auto mag it only worked well with Winchester 50 grains as recommended by the manufacturer.. Poor Ammo is simply “POOR”. PUT AMERICAN AMMO in your AMERICAN Gun. Why do the same people that wouldn’t put water from their garden hose in their gas tank and expect their Chevy to run, expect a SemiAuto to function on trash ammo?! Put your cheap ammo in a revolver, and buy what the manufacturer recommends for your self loader.
How many guys would buy a new corvette, premium specified, and complain that it wouldn’t run right on mini-mart regular? If you want the suggested performance-use the suggested fuel.

  6. I ordered mine three months ago & payed up front for it . Everytime we ask Kel Tec about delivery they extend the delivery a month . Maybe Santa Claus
will have it in my stocking . No matter what the reason , I think it a is a bad way of doing business . I’ve run a machine shop for 40 years & your word & quality is what brings customers back . They would have been better off to make the PMR 30 & then advertized but they wanted to make sure it would sell to the public & not be stuck with them . Good business sense on their end but bad for customers waiting .

  7. I agree that they should have simply stopped releasing them, in any number, and simply owned up to the problem right from the start. As stated, now we have ridiculous prices on what could be majorly faulty guns and/or never-ending back orders. In any case, it’s now the end of October & I feel they owe their consumers an official update. Has anybody heard the current state of things? By the way, thanks for posting their initial response.

  8. Kel Tec has broken every delivery promise, month after month after month after month!!!!!

They hyped the gun, got Kel Tec fans excited, dealers took orders, some took only names and nothing!

Everyone is disgusted customers and dealers alike!

All Kel Tec has done is to spawn bad will along with lousy marketing.

The few PMR’s Kel Tec managed to ge out the door to certain wholesalers went to dealers who became major scalpers charging 2 and sometimes 2 1/2 times what the gun is worth. Thanks Kel Tec !!!!!!

I am patient enough to wait for a good product.
When it is available I will spring for it.

  11. Announcing a release date before the PMR 30 is built, tested, tweaked and ready to be shipped was amateurish and short-sighted. Shipping small batches only opens Kel-Tec up to suspicions of trying to whip up demand by limiting supply; a truly stupid tactic I doubt they would take. Nobody has to buy one of the few that are available at jacked up, rip-off prices. I too want a PMR 30, but am willing to wait until the dust (and the prices)settles. Sports fans – curb your enthusiasm!! I spoke to the Kel-Tec front desk earlier this week and was told runs of 200-500 weekly were shipping. Don’t get your panties in a wad

  12. Even the amateur can uncover the net website of the specific firm in which he is interested and can collect the required info. The stock broker can guide the newbie in the present situation of stock exchange and may possibly give some predictions and tips about next couple of days of trading trends. As the stock exchange is not steady, the new investor really should watch some swings and roundabouts and try and study them using the study methods they’ve picked up thus far.

  15. something i read on the internet might be of interest……..

    22 magnum ammo

One of the best rounds for .22 magnum from a pistol is the CCI TNT 30 grain load. It uses a faster burning powder and generally acts like a “quality” pistol bullet when fired from a pistol.

    good luck

  16. My pmr is no# WOS057 ,and if anyone can tell me it’s manufacture date etc. I would be very thankful.
My gun failed to feed the first round I loaded in it on the day it was purchased.
After that it fired every round to this day without a single jam or misfire, except for Winchester Dyna-Points wich simply don’t have the poop to cycle the action, but in all fairness to Winchester the most accurate round it fires is the SUPER-X jhp and it never jam’s with that round.
The other ammo I’ve tried are Federal, CCI, Remington and Hornady, all shoot at least good at 25 yards with groups running from 3″ down to 1.5″ with the above mentioned Winchester Super-x. I have not tried and probably won’t try foriegn ammo, as it is realy not much cheaper than USA stuff so whats the point?
Chronograph results were from 1225fps with the dyno-points up to 1670fps with TNTs, even the 50gr. Federals are around 1325 and that for me is pretty impressive out of such a short barrel. I haven’t kept count of how many rounds went down range but it’s in the mid hundreds , mostly the Federal 50gr. hollow points that I happened to have a case of long befor I got the Kel-Tec, and all but the dyna-points performed flawlessly and they work great in my wifes Henry so no loss.
I suspect alot of failures come from limp wristing the gun because it weighs nothing and needs to recoil against something, so hang on tight!

  24. Having worked many years in manufacturing in R&D, production, and production management, I can sympathize with Kel-Tec in scaling up production of a new gun. I ordered a Kel-Tec KSG earlier this week and expect it to be months before the gun arrives. I can wait. What I would like to see is as few modifications as possible required after delivery.

Kel-Tec is not the only gun manufacturer with long delays. I order a Kimber Target II two months ago and was told on order to expect the gun in May 2012. This is six months from the time of order. In the case of Kimber, their issue is not scale-up of new production but limits on output by their most wonderful union. (We can all imagine where this is going long term.)

  36. This was a reasonable explanation for the delay in production in August 2010. Fast forward two years to today, 10/20/2012. The production and supply problem persists. What is the explanation now? Waiting for a change in the country’s administration on election day to see if an expansion in production is justified? Hope for a change and maybe Kel-tec will boost production with a pro-second amendment administration.

  47. I have gotten feed back from Kel Tec that PMR 30s are in full production. How many a week is not known. I do know that gun brokers are selling the PMR 30s to the dealers only if they buy X amount of products from them. Then the dealers put the majority of them on the inter-net at a price to make a big profit.

I suggest that everyone stop buying the PMR 30 to drive the price back down.

I have called and talked to my Senator about the high cap. magazine/pistols and assault weapon band and they tell me that back ground checks MAY repeat MAY PASS in the senate
