Flat Dark Earth (FDE) is the latest earth-tone rendition of Wilson Combat’s heat-cured Armor-Tuff firearms finish. As you can see on the CQB with light rail below, FDE is an excellent match for most other current tactical gear. Also, your gun will stay cooler in hot weather and produce a reduced IR signature than darker finishes.
The CQB line has a full-size carbon steel frame, with a 30-lpi high cut checkered frontstrap and high-ride beavertail grip safety. The five-inch carbon-steel slide is hand-fitted with a five-inch stainless match grade barrel and bushing. The grip panels are fitted with G10 Starburst Grips, and inside the handle there’s a contoured magazine well. Other features include a Battlesight with fiber-optic front sight, tactical thumb safety, and a 3.5- to 3.75-pound trigger pull.
- Available Calibers: .45 ACP, 10mm, 40 S&W, .38 Super, 9mm
- Magazine Capacity: 8 rds (.45 ACP)
- Barrel Length: 5 in.
- Overall Length: 8.7 in.
- Sight Radius: 6.6 in.
- Height: 5.6 in.

- Weight Empty: 36.6 oz.
- Weight Loaded: 45 oz.

Armor-Tuff has a non-reflective matte surface finish that looks similar to an ultra-fine sandblast blue job. The Armor-Tuff finish is as tough as nails and good looking as well, as these photos attest.

The article is entitled “TO DIE FOR: Wilson Combat CQB FDE and it introduces Wilson’s new M1911 Flat Dark Earth (FDE). After stating that it is a Wilson, little else actually needed to be said. The Flat Dark Earth, which I’ve seen up close, is in my opinion the most beautiful full-sized M1911 I have ever seen, and it is available in 5 calibers. If I was writing the article however,I’d have to entitle it “TO DIE WITHOUT”! I’ve been a shooter for 50 years, however, Doctors tell me that I only have two more years to enjoy my passion.Since I am now disabled my income has obviously tanked, and I’ll never own a quality 1911, that I’ve wanted for my entire life. To my shooting brothers and sisters, enjoy and fight for our 2nd Amendment right!
