I’ve received two of those cans today. They are great quality. I am very pleased. Cans are very clean, no rust, no scratches, near brand new condition. Also I’ve got organizer inserts for these cans, and they fit in perfectly. Thank you CTD!!! You impressed me ones again!

I got this can and the fat 50 can. This can had a couple deep dents and a little rust. The fat 50 can was full of wet sand and had some rust as well. If you buy these be sure to know that you will need to clean and remove rust, possibly remove dents also. But, if you clean them they should serve as good ammo storage. The rubber seals were in great shape and mine had no spray paint on them.

I wrote on 6/27/08 that I receced 3 Cans with the Tan Paint which was very easy to remove. The Cans were Perfect. I ordered 3 more and was not happy at all with this order. The three cans I received this time are Sprayed with Gobs of Black Paint, Dented, Covered in Sun Dried Duck Tape and are Filthy. There is NO WAY to get these cans clean at all unless I have them blasted. The Only OD Green is on the inside and that is filthy as well. Very Upset, I would Return if I could. I can NOT Believe that these cans are from the same company. I order a bunch from CTD and have never had a problem until now. I guess the stock is very low and they have someone finding whatever junk they can to send out.

I ordered two of these cans and they did not look nearly as good as the picture. They were filthy and scratched with rust all over. Functionally, they work, but it took a lot of elbow grease to restore to non-rusty condition. If you don't mind the work to restore them, they are not bad.

Ordered 4 cans and they were all in good-as-new condition; thus the 5 bullet rating. No dents, damage or rust. Much better than anything I've seen at gun shows at a fraction of the price. The sand-coloured paint sucked but was able to easily remove it while retaining the original writing by using an old ScotchBrite sponge and some cheap paint remover. Just wet the scratchy side of the sponge, rub it over the paint to make it wet, wait a couple of minutes, scratch it, repeat as necessary. The covering paint was quickly removed while retaining the original writing. For all you "traditional" types (like myself), the cans I got were not .50 caliber but rather three 5.56 NATO and one 9mm can. Insignificant to anyone but a purist like myself :-) Definately a good buy.

WOW!, I read the reviews before I ordered three of these. I was a little nervous because with my normal luck, my cans would be so, so. They were delivered Superfast and they are PERFECT!. The orange paint on the side as everyone says if fine, just use some goof-off and they look Brand new. The seals are nice and tight with no leaks. What a great purchase. I will be ordering more so I can give to son for his ammo and gear. Keep up the Great prices and Service.

I gave this four stars instead of five because the picture cheaper than dirt is using is not accurate at all. Yes, that's the can you'll be getting but it will be covered in writing and spray paint. They ought to have a picture of the produce you're going to buy. Anyway, I took some solvent to mine along with a wool brush and removed all of the tan paint. It took a little bit of scrubbing but it came off easily enough. It's kind of cool to own a real piece of military equipment like this. It feels pretty tough and I'm proud to own it. With the organizational inserts sold on this site it makes a fantastic gun bench tool container, by the way.

I received an ammo can and didn't like the tan paint like most. I tried paint thinner and wasn't happy with how slow the paint was coming off so I tried Goof Off. Goof Off takes off the tan paint and the yellow lettering if you rub the same spot very long at all-it works well but use with caution if you want the yellow lettering.

I ordered two in the hopes of increasing my chances of getting a good one. Well, I'm glad I did, because my strategy paid off. Both actually look pretty good from the outside (more or less like the picture), but one of them had WATER inside. So, being that they are painted steel, the paint inside completely blistered and the bottom was pretty rusty. I used some steel wool to remove the blistered paint, and some phosphoric / naval jelly to get rid of the rust. After an interior paint job, I should be in good shape. The other one was pretty nice, almost new, having only a bit of sand in it as some other people mentioned. Both had the tan paint over the markings, but I don't really care about it. Both gaskets are in good shape. The one filled with water made a vacuum noise when opening it. Overall, I'm happy since they don't have any dents or mechanical problems. By the way, the lid slides right off the hinges for easy maintenance.

I bought one of these cans because I only bought 1 at a local gunshow last time. Boy this was was out of shape. It looks nothing like the picture, nothing close. The best description i think would be it was tossed off a rocky hill. scartches, some writing painted over. The gunshow had cans for 6$ that looked just like the picture here. paying 8$ for a can looking beat up isnt worth it to me. im going to have to give only 3 stars because it works fine but looks horrible.

It is what it is. These are surplus ammo cans and as such, you get what they have. I got mine two days after ordering (4 of them). Some had full paint jobs, some had some surface corrosion, some had rough paint jobs, and some had sand in them (maybe Iraqi or Afghani sand..if so, I'm proud I got some). All were exactly what CTD said they were...SURPLUS AMMO CANS. Yeah, they stink like they've been in storage but that's what happens when you buy SURPLUS military stock. Mine are for storing ammo, which is what they are for. If you want museum pieces, go someplace else. A little Dawn dish soap, hot water and a light coat of oil and they will meet your needs if what you are looking for are, SURPLUS AMMO CANS. I think I got every penny's worth out of my purchase. Just my humble opinion.

Got my can 3 days after ordering it. The tan paint I had read about was there, but 10 minutes of scrubbing with a Scotch-Brite pad took care of it. I can still read the markings too! There were no dents, minor scratches and no rust. Just a little dust, that's all. Very tight seal, and it appears that the gasket is in excellent condition. This will definitely make a great toolbox to fit behind the backseat in my Tacoma. Highly recommended!!

I have the luxury of going to the store itself in Ft. Worth. All the Ammo Cans were in excellent shape. Picked up 6. Yes, they were all spray painted with tan paint to obliterate the yellow markings on the side. I used "Goof-Off", a product that removes dried latex paint, glue, adhesives, sticker residue, etc. It did a fantastic job. It does take off the yellow lettering too but leaves the OD paint on the can. They all look brand new now! Goof-Off can be bought at any hardware store, even Wal-Mart. Comes in a small can about half the size of a lighter fluid can.

Well, what can you expect for this low price. I was a little concerned by a liquid floating round at the bottom of the can when I received it. I think and hope it was just water. I cleaned it. But, there was some rust and corrosion at the inside bottom of the can. These boxes vary in condition, I suspect, as they are probably surplus. But just so you know, my can was discolored a bit, and seemed to have a stink, dirty oil all over the outside of the box. Complaints aside, the box works just fine. I just had to spend time cleaning it up,

These are a nice value. Our local shop used to carry these for 25 bucks. It has a bit of rust inside and oil. So i hosed it out with greased lighting, dried well and caked it with rag full of WD-40, air dry. Looks better, holds 1000 7.62x39 rounds easily, and weights a ton when full. I will be buying a few more, and a couple in .30 cal size for pistol surplus.

I purchased one with my recent order not expecting much, but I was surprised to get a like new can. To let you know how good the seal is, I opened mine & heard a suction hiss (the pressure at the location it came from was less than where I'm at). All I had to do was take a damp towel & wipe off a bit of dust from the exterior. There was no spray paint my can like others are saying...but who knows, I probably got lucky. It's a great buy, and I just ordered 2 more to put my ammo inventory in. They're heavy duty & well worth the $.

i just received my 50 Cal used ammo can and it is great. i received it 5 days after ordering it, i woke up this morning looked at fedex website to check on status and saw it was here already. After ripping the box apart, i saw the can was in great shape. It did have some marks on it but hey, it a used military can - what can you expect? The letters on the side of the can were spray painted over with a brown color so it is hard to read exactly what it used to say. No rust, but a little dusty. Buy these cans. They are well worth every penny. You will not be disappointed. At this price, buy two.

Tan "oblit" paint

These cans work great for organizing, safely storing, and packaging your ammo. As for all the previous comments about people being upset over having the tan oblitterating spray paint over the the can's nomenclature, DODIC, and Lot numbers they are just going to have to live with it. I am an Active Duty Air Force member working in the Munitions Systems (AMMO) section as a munitions inspector. One of the requirements we have before shipping ammo cans out to DRMO is to obliterate all markings on the cans with spray paint. DRMO in turn will either have the metal scrapped or will sell the cans to companies for public sale. Just be happy that when you purchase an ammo can from this company that you are receiving a quality military grade product in good condition that was actually used by one of this country's armed services. Besides, it really isn't that hard to get the paint off anyway.

Ok people, we are all here because we like to shoot; and I sure do my share. Most of my shooting is done on my private time(thank God!). Any way I have stored up alot of ammo for my personal use, and I, like most of you, have run out of places to safely store said ammo. So, while visiting this site I came accross these used ammo cans. I bought six of them(with two sets of the insert trays for two of them). I was VERY happy with all six cans that I received. No dents, handles in excellant shap, and they sealed so tightly that I had to put most of what I have to open them! So if you want pretty and shinny, buy New Ammo Cans that start at $50. and up! In short this is an excellant deal! PS. I do suggest that for every one of THESE cans you buy, also buy the set of the three Insert Separator trays to go with them, these will come in handy for even future uses.

Hi, Yeah, recently I recieved my CTD Ammo Can and I'd asked to have 'em select and send a nice one that looked like the one pictured. Well, it arrived and it was in VERY good condition compared to the rusty, dented up cans avail. here at our local surplus stores. My only complait was the painting over of the stenciling with beige paint! ??? I liked the stenciling, it gave the cans a more authentic look. I mean, 'come on, if they were going to paint out the stenciling why wouldn't they at least get some proper matching OD Camo paint to do it with. I dunno. I just don't like to buy something only to have it become ANOTHER project to deal with. So, I'm very happy it's a good can to store my ammo in but also disappointed with the amatuerish spray- painting of the can. What-cha' you goin' t' do? Karl-Marcel Koenen

Otherwise it is in good condition with no rust or dents. It would have been nice to not have to strip and repaint it remake it to original... however I'll survive.

Havent bought these cans from CTD, but I have bought them from local surplus stores (A surplus can is a surplus can). I love CTD though. Point is, figured id share some tips with yall for..ahh..breathing life back into an old can. (Read: Rusty/Scratched/Etc). Rustolem makes a spray paint line called Camo. And their OD is rather close to the real deal. It also has a sealing agent in it. If i get a can and its rusty, i scrub it with steel wool, then a bronze brush (Gun cleaning tool) then clean it up with a damp sponge. Let it dry then spray the entire can..inside and out with the rustolem spray paint. IMO it helps the can last alot longer. I have bought two of the 40mm cans from CTD before, both had some rust. I cleaned and repainted them. put a coat of clear sealant, then another coat of the paint on it. Currently those two cans are burried about 4 ft deep (I live in FL..) holding ammo, a 2nd BoB (Bug Out Bag), a spare pistol and ammo. I check them every 6 months and i just checked them..still perfect. Used waterproof vacuum bags on the inside to hold the items just for extra protection from my states notorious wetness. So yeh..remember..they are surplus cans that CTD is offering and thus some will be rusty. But realize that they can be easily brought back to BETTER than prior condition.

I ordered 2 of these cans with the understanding that these are used cans but would look nice with the markings on the sides like the picture shown. However, what I received was 2 cans that were painted white on the side where the markings would be with rust spots all over and inside. The only reason why it received 2 bullets is because they were not dented and did seal up. All I have to say is.. DO NOT EXPECT THAT PICTURE. By the way the tray kits fit perfectly into them.

I have purchased these ammo cans several times over the years. They have usually been received in very good used condition, and have served me well. They keep my stuff protected and dry while knocking around in the trunk of my car for years at a time. The only problem I have ever had was with two cans (in the same shipment) - which had been damaged, and somehow each had a broken seam... and I had more than a half inch of foul smelling, oily, brackish liquid in the bottoms of the cans, and the inside bottoms of those cans were starting to degrade. Make sure you check out the insides of all of yours when you get them.
